Turkey Plate Challenge is On

Posted on Mon, Nov 4, 2013

It has become clear in the past week that Trinity UCC is gunning to steal away the turkey plate award from Zion in this year's challenge collection of food for the Holiday Visitor's Bureau of Ottawa County.

Pastor Steve Korn has challenged members of his church to bring $10 a week of food to the church, and Trinity began its drive some weeks ago.

Zion walked away with the turkey plate prize last year by more than doubling the amount of food that was given by Trinity. Rev. Keeler Sunday urged members of the church to recruit neighbors and friends in this year's food drive. "Let's not increase our donations through addition," he said, "but rather by multiplication. Let's multiply the number of people giving food. If you recruit a neighbor on either side of you to join in the drive, you will have three times as many givers as last year."

The collection will be judged this year by a judge from Ottawa County, and the plate will be awarded to the winning church at this year's joint Trinity-Zion Thanksgiving potluck, which is scheduled Nov. 24 at Trinity UCC.
