New Ministry Team set to lead Elliston Zion.
With the departure of their Pastor, Elliston Zion United Methodist was faced with a dilemma- to ask the Maumee Watershed District to assign a new Pastor or to use the gifts within the church to fulfil the obligations of a minister and the administration of the church.
Fortunately, the latter choice was readily available and church members were up to the challenge.
Beginning July 1st, Elliston Zion UMC will have a New Ministry Team leading worship services, conducting shut in visitations and ministering to its members and to the community.
LisaAnne Gregg, who has been involved in the laity at Elliston Zion for several years has been appointed as the “Supply Pastor” of Elliston Zion and will be joined on the team by Certified Lay Leaders JoAnne Craft, Mary Stulpin and retired UMC Pastor Charles Kaylor.
Together, they will plan and serve Sunday services, special events and special community worship services. The team will rotate “sermon time” on Sundays and will assist each other in leading each service. Communion will be celebrated on the first Sunday of each month by Pastor Kaylor.
Additional Sunday school classes will be started in the fall and the church will continue its outreach to the community through its LIGHT Neighborhood Pantry which is open to residents of Ottawa County on the second Wednesday of each month from 5 to 7 PM.
“We are so fortunate here at Elliston Zion to have members who love their church and love to serve the Lord,” said Mrs. Gregg. “This was really a natural solution to the predicament of the pastoral vacancy. It allows the district and the church to take the time to explore the need to appoint a new pastor or to allow the Ministry Team to continue to serve into the future. We are very blessed.”
Elliston Zion serves breakfast every Sunday morning at 8:30, hosts Sunday school at 9:00 and worship services begin at 10:00 AM. Everyone is welcome at Elliston Zion!!
