Jay Tayler, son of Sherry Keeler
A house fire Thursday destroyed the home of Jay Tayler, son of Sherry Keeler and a member at Zion, leaving him, his wife, and their two sons with few, if any possessions. No one was injured.
Jay, who joined the church shortly after Rev. Keeler came in 2008, moved to the Leipsic area about two years ago following his marriage.
The couple's two sons, Dylan and Reid, were home alone Thursday afternoon when the youngest son, Reid, noticed smoke coming under a door from the garage. The boys fled out the back door and ran to a neighbor's home for help, but two fire departments were unable to contain the blaze until the home had mostly been destroyed.
The family is staying at the home of a relative in the Leipsic area and will attempt to determine in the next day or two if anything can be salvaged.
Jay is a union trustee at the Chrysler plant in Perrysburg, and Dani is a registered nurse at a nursing home in Leipsic.
The family lost most furnishings, a vintage Firebird, a huge and valuable collection of sports memorabilia, all Christmas presents, and most clothing. Jay and Dani will be going into the home today with fire marshals to determine if anything can be salvaged, but about 80 percent of the home was gutted. Some clothing remained in rooms that were shut off from the fire. Jay and Dani will try to see if any of that can be saved.
Please hold the family in prayer as it tries to recover from the loss.
